The game does not come up with an entirely new and original story. This is what lends authenticity to the game. The previous Resident Evil games scenario is presented in the form of a report on the final of the now-fallen Umbrella Corporation, the conglomerate responsible for creating the zombies. The narrative is short and more focus is given to creating a grim atmosphere and recounting memorable moments.
Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles take place in 2003 with the reunion of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they hunt down the last of parts of Umbrella in the frozen industrial complex. Besides that there are a number of side missions where they revisit the areas from the main mission and you get to see what characters like Rebecca Chambers and Albert Weskers were up to in different points in the series.
The game can take more than four hours to complete a single run through all the missions, which quite impressive considering that games of this type usually tend to last for an hour or so.
The game follows the usual Resident Evil pattern of fighting too many zombies with not enough ammunition. However, you will still be fighting monsters who tend to appear from nowhere. Your standard pistol has unlimited ammo but the pistol becomes ineffective as the game proceeds and you are forced to rely on other weapons which can run out of ammunition. These weapons are shotguns, automatic weapons, grenades and RPGs. During the game, you earn stars and you can use them to upgrade your weapons, increase your weapons ammunition capacity and stopping power.
In Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles, you have to precise rather than fast while killing the zombies. Every enemy has very tiny weak spot that, when hit, kills the enemy in a single shot. However, the spot is so small that you would need luck to find it with a single shot.
