The game is full of interesting and multifaceted characters to give you an exciting and unique combat gameplay.
The game starts with you customizing an avatar. In Mass Effect, you play are Commander Shepard, who has the potential of being the savior of the galaxy, but you can mold him or her the way you want to. You can choose from a variety of preset features and you can even give the Commander a scar. You also choose a class and there are 6 in total to choose from and each has various strengths in combat, tech and biotics. You can also select a few autobiographical parts and through the course of the game, characters will refer to your past and the resulting dialogue options allow you to react to their comments with various degrees of scorn, humility or wistfulness.
In Mass effect, humans are not the political center of the universe and they do not have a seat on the galactic council or even a representative on the Spectre squad, an elite group of special forces endowed with power to solve political and military challenges as they see fit. However, Spectre has now turned against the council and they are ransacking ancient artifacts, and are setting free the violent robotic Geth race on the galaxy. As Commander Shepard, you pursue Geth from one alien world to another trying to discover what Spectre’s intentions are. Although the Geth race disappears for most of the game and finding him feels less important that it should be, Mass Effect is exciting.
In the game you will be walking through many dialogue trees and the way you respond can mean either life or death. At times the decisions you make can have an effect on the missions. For instance, a friendly ally can turn into an enemy, or you can exploit evil corporate executives for fun and profit.
When you navigate dialogue, you will earn paragon or renegade points. Your decisions, though, will not affect any of your abilities but will have an effect on the gameplay. You can complete the entire game in 40 hours but there is sufficient contextual content to play Mass Effect a second time round. If you ignore the side quests and concentrate just on the main storyline, you will finish this exciting game with excellent visuals in about 15 hours.
